Pearl Necklace: Woman’s Best Friend
It is very natural for women to have a passion for jewelry and other types
of fashionable accessories. When it comes to jewelry, there’s simply nothing
more dazzling and stunning than the classic pearl necklace. Since pearls are
considered as gemstones and objects of beauty, jewelry adorned with it
becomes endowed with glamour, elegance and beauty, which is why so many
women treasure them. A pearl necklace can easily boost your overall look
when you are wearing your favourite evening dress, or turn you into a
beautiful princess on your wedding gown.
Truly a pearl is a prized possession, enveloped in both elegance and
mystery. Their commanding value can be attributed to the time nature takes
in making them, as well as the hard work and risk involved in their
culturing, whether in freshwater or saltwater. Pearls can be natural or
cultured. The first type is produced through natural process and is very
rare, which also explains why they are very expensive. Cultured pearls,
although also made by nature, involves some human intervention in order to
help oysters produce them. They are the ones which make up a huge portion of
the pearl industry.
There are six categories of necklaces which are relative to their length –
collar, choker, princess, matinee, opera and rope. The length of a collar
necklace is anywhere between 10-13 inches and is a good choice for formal
and casual occasions. The choker’s length is around 16-18 inches and is
typically worn lower on the neck. The princess necklace is considered a
classic, being 17-20 inches, and the most versatile as well. At 20-24
inches, the matinee is a perfect match for business/corporate attire, while
the 28-34 inch opera for formal events. The rope variant is the longest at
37 inches or more.
When shopping for the perfect pearl necklace, you must also consider the
pearl size matching. Some necklaces will have pearls of uniform size, while
others may have varying sizes (e.g. combination of small and large pearls).
When it comes to size, the pearls in a necklace can say a lot about the
wearer, particularly with their age and social status. Teens and young women
will most likely be wearing smaller pearls, with sizes ranging from 5.5-6.5mm,
while large pearls (usually rare and expensive) with sizes ranging from 8-10mm
is often only worn by mature women or the wealthy class.
Any woman wearing a pearl necklace can easily look alluring and gorgeous,
but only when it is made of the real thing. Pearls are a wonderful work of
Mother Nature, both natural and cultured, and are the only ones with real
market value. It is easy to be misled with a necklace made with synthetic
pearl if you are not equipped with the proper knowledge on distinguishing
genuine pearls from the fake. There are even some stores which claim they
are selling genuine pearl jewelry, when in fact they’re not. For this
reason, it is best that you buy your pearl jewelry only from reputable and
licensed dealers.
